The days leading up to the Dominion Day Picnic and fireworks have everyone in a tizzy. Felix King, eager to move more quickly with Izzy pressures her to start kissing but she is not ready. Olivia King-Dale wants to have more children but Jasper Dale is considering taking a teaching job in England. Stuart McRae wants to marry Felicity but she is still thinking about Gus.

Things go from bad to worse when Felix implies to his friends that he kissed Izzy and it gets spread all over Avonlea; Jasper suggests to Olivia that he should go to England without her and gets dumped out of a canoe in response; and Stuart asks Felicity to marry him and gets a definite maybe.

Ultimately, Felix tries to apologize to Izzy but she is still too upset to accept, Olivia and Jasper patch things up and agree that Jasper will go to England on a trial basis, and Felicity accepts Stuart’s proposal in spite of her ongoing feelings for Gus.
