It is with mixed feelings that Sara Stanley receives the news that she is to return to her father, Blair Stanley in Montreal. She doesn’t really want to leave, but Sara is being blamed by her Uncle Alec King for a fire at the General Store that was actually caused by Felix King and decides that her Avonlea family would be better off without her. Despite an intense dislike of Sara’s father, and an even stronger dislike of Sara’s Nanny Louisa, Hetty accompanies Sara on the lengthy trip to Montreal to make sure she gets there safely.

The happy reunion of Sara and her father is marred soon after Sara’s arrival when her father is struck down in his warehouse and killed instantly. Along with her Aunt Hetty and Nanny Louisa, Sara returns to PEI where her father’s body can be laid to rest beside Sara’s mother. But Sara is inconsolable. The attempts of her friend Peter Craig to cheer her up by taking her to a travelling circus only succeed in exposing her to Morgana and her conniving partner Leo, a couple of opportunistic fortune-tellers who plot to cash in on the young heiress’s sorrow.

Season Two

Enticed by promises of being able to speak to her departed father, Sara walks into their trap and is kidnapped. At Rose Cottage, the disappearance of the child they love causes Hetty and Nanny Banks to mend the rift between them and combine their efforts and resources to effect Sara’s safe recovery. Meanwhile, Alec discovers where Sara is being held captive and makes a dramatic and heroic rescue.

Now convinced that she is wanted by her Avonlea family after all, and since Hetty agrees to allow Nanny Louisa to visit whenever she wants, Sara decides to stay in Avonlea for good.

Notes & Inspirations

• Originally Aired December 2, 1990
• Louisa asks that the outhouse and other aspects of Rose cottage be updated if she is to return. This is never done throughout the entire run of the show.
• The Fireworks at the beginning of the episode were for Dominion Day, or as it is known now, Canada Day.
• The shots of Sara’s house in Montreal were actually filmed in Rosedale, an upscale neighbourhood in Toronto.
